The "Isolation of Our Lord":
That strange myth of suffering
From love for humanity - forlorn beings
Stubbing their toes in endless confusion
And self-destructive stupidity,
From the Trojan Wars to the Crucifixion
To all the other tragedies, - World Wars
One, Two, Three, Four:
lt is the sense that we do not know
What we do, that draws compassion -
Thinking for millenia that human sacrifice
ls necessary for Spring to come, -
Even though there is such great capacity
For nastiness - due to millenia
Of evolutionary pressure upon human groups
That fought against others for survival:
The myth and hope that we could get beyond
ls the real beacon light.
