Dream

I arrived in some strange heaven of dead people,

Where someone said, Ah, you’ve come too!

We are all people who tried to square

The circle like you, tried to crack the silly nut,

Or find the ultimate alchemist’s stone!

As his face receded in ghoulish leer,

I realised I had indeed always been blowing

Pipe-dreams when I had lived, and had wasted all my time,

Trying to make sense of the nonsensical.
